The real question, Joel, is what happens when the mainstream is on Twitter: how does our use, perception and intent change? I doubt it stays the same...

@Carolyn Thanks for the note. I've actually been on Twitter for quite a while now. Even back during my "debate" with Andy and others I was a user. I just didn't see it as a useful tool for marketing and PR in the past. I liked chatting and using it to be social - but not much else.

And I don't think we should discount the power of blogs to explore information and ideas in a deeper way than what 140 characters can do. So I'm glad you didn't just tweet your response. Leaving a comment here gave you more space to let your ideas develop further.

And I agree. Following Andy is great to keep up with what is going on with NPR and the news in general. He keeps people very informed.

I, for one, have really found it a cool thing to follow Andy's twitters about NPR doings. As a librarian, then I can pick up little tidbits to share with teachers where I work.

Not to mention all the things I learn from fellow twitterers about technology, library what-not, and news in general.

But of course you know that now that you are on twitter :)

So I suppose I should have just twittered my response!

You have probably already seen the Pew Research report on Twitter which is now growing like a wildfire on Twitter because Pew provides a snapshot of where Twitter was at the time of their study. (But, not where Twitter is today, or where it will be in 12 more months as what I've branded the "the O9'ers" stake their claims on Twitter in search of their share of that "Twitter gold".

Also, I too monitor the same intersection that you've identified - with the key word for me being leadership.

Looking forward to monitoring/sharing information with you as this crucial intersection becomes more and more the focal point for online traffic.
