Conversation breeds more conversation

Who do you call the most?
It would seem that the farther away we are from loved ones the more we would use digital technology to communicate with them. When we live next door – no need to email or call right?

It doesn’t seem to work like this.
At least not for me.

For the first three years of being married we lived within a half hour of my folks. I would talk with my dad by phone at least every other day. I would see him almost every day. Now we live within 20 minutes of Megan’s family. We see them almost every day and she talks with them on the phone at least every other day. My phone and email communication with my family has dropped significantly. The same goes for my friends back in Pennsylvania.

Conversation breeds more conversation.
The more time we spend with people the more time we spend with people. Sounds redentant and obvious – but it is the truth. Even in this Twitter saturated world we seem to keep touch with those who we spend time with anyway. Long lost friends – even if they are my facebook friends – don’t really talk with me that much.

What about you? Do you see this same trend in your life?
